Summer might be winding down, but there’s still a need to beat the dog days of summer heat. Whether it be in the ambiance of the theater or in the comfort of your own home, there’s nothing quite like putting your feet up and enjoying a great piece of entertainment. Unsure as to which new flick might be right for you? We’ve compiled a list of the top five must-see summer movies, so go ahead and sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Wonder Woman, June 2

Looking for a family friendly movie to enjoy on those final summer nights? “Wonder Woman is a fan favorite fantasy feature this summer.

Released in theaters on June 2, this masterfully redone DC Comics classic is based on “Wonder Woman” by William Moulton Marston. Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, a princess of the Amazons, trained to be a warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Diana, being convinced she can stop the threat, leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

“Wonder Woman,” directed by Patty Jenkins received 92 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and critic Christopher Orr says “A little humor and charm—plus a breakout performance by Gal Gadot—can go a long way.”

The Beguiled, June 23

The Beguiled” was released into theaters on June 23 based on “A Painted Devil” by Thomas P. Cullinan. This Rated R film tells the story of Cpl. John Mcburney, an injured Union soldier who finds himself on the run as a deserter during the Civil War. He seeks refuge at an all-female southern boarding school where the teachers and students seem willing to help, when chaos and jealousy ensues.  

“The Beguiled,” directed by Sofia Coppola, received 78 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and critic Joe Morgenstem  from the Wall Street Journal says “The charge in Sofia Coppola’s remarkable film is intense.”

Baby Driver, June 28

If finding a movie that’s perfect for both you and your significant other is a challenge, it’s hard to go wrong crime and thriller action. After receiving a 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, “Baby Driveris one of the season’s must-see movies. Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman of his dreams (Lily James), he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom. “Baby Driver was released on June 28 and was directed by Edgar Wright.

Spider-Man: Homecoming, July 7

We have another great family friendly movie that we know you and the kids will both enjoy, “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” This PG-13 science fiction/fantasy film gained a whopping 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt Mary. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound  identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine, distracted by the thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds.

Critic Nick De Semlyen from Empire states “The characters and scenarios are familiar, but this is a loose, cool, funny remix that makes them feel fresh again. Plus, it’s mercifully short on life lessons from Aunt Mary.

Girls Trip, July 21

If you’re looking for a relaxing girls night out, “Girls Tripis just what you need. With a 87 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating, grab your girlfriends, leave the kids at home (it is rated R, afterall) and enjoy a night to yourselves! Girls Trip, released on July 21 and directed by Malcolm D. Lee, is about best friends Ryan, Sasha, Lisa, and Dina who are in for the adventure of a lifetime when they travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Along the way, they rekindle their sisterhood and rediscover their wild side by doing enough dancing, drinking and romancing to make the Big Easy blush. Check out the trailer here!
