While the official peak of the holiday gift-giving season may still be weeks away on Christmas Day, for FTC TV subscribers, a huge present is coming just days from now. This early December gift should be a very welcome one for lovers of award-winning television series and hit movies. And instead of landing under the tree, it will appear on the TV!
So just what is this early Christmas-season offering? Beginning on Friday, December 9, and running through Monday, December 12, FTC will offer a free SHOWTIME preview event. And for the event’s four-day duration, subscribers to FTC TV will be treated to one captivating gift after another on their television screens.
Here are just a handful of the highlights in store during the upcoming SHOWTIME “freeview” set for December 9–12 on FTC channels 300–321:
George & Tammy: This dramatic new series takes a deep dive into one of music’s most renowned love stories: that of country crooners George Jones and Tammy Wynette. While the pair managed to create several No. 1 singles and mount a successful tour together, their time as husband and wife was tumultuous, making for a short, 6-year marriage … and more recently, some great TV viewing.
Let the Right One In: In this horror/drama series inspired by the Swedish novel of the same name, a father goes to extraordinary lengths to care for his pre-teen daughter, who was turned into a vampire a decade ago. Just a couple of the top challenges he faces in doing so include keeping her out of the sunlight … and supplying the human blood she needs to survive.
High Plains Drifter: This classic 1973 Western stars Clint Eastwood as a nameless (and mysterious) gunslinger hired by the residents of an isolated Old West mining town to protect them from a trio of ruthless outlaws. As his time in the town grows longer, the stranger discovers that the townspeople may not be nearly as innocent as they originally let on.
Smokey and the Bandit marathon: This trio of high-action comedy films from the late ’70s/early ’80s stars screen legends Burt Reynolds and Sally Field in two of their most memorable roles. Viewers of the on-screen action will be treated to plenty of hijinks (and laughs) as a pair of Southern bootleggers work to outwit an inept Texas county sheriff as they attempt a cross-country beer run.
Forrest Gump: This 1994 comedy-drama starring Tom Hanks as the title character is widely regarded as one of the top American films of all time. It follows the adventures of a simple-minded, slow-witted and well-meaning soul who runs through some of the signature scenes of American life and culture in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, all while chasing the true love of his childhood sweetheart, Jenny.
