Reliable Home Security Solutions During Outages

home security battery backup

Running home security without power or internet is not as impossible as it once was and with the right system, households can remain protected through outages. Safety should not be jeopardized due to severe weather, network maintenance or equipment failure. Thankfully, modern home security solutions offer alternative communication channels and backup batteries to keep households protected when the power goes out and the internet goes down.

Maintaining Home Security Without Power

Electrical outages can make any homeowner feel uneasy, especially when home security is rendered useless without power. Investing in a new security system can make a family’s woes about dropped coverage a thing of the past; today’s home security equipment is designed to switch power to backup batteries during an outage so the system, including locks and alarms, can be controlled without electricity. Video surveillance systems and intruder alarms that cannot switch to a battery backup during a home security power outage will stop working until the electricity is restored.

Backup Batteries for Home Security Systems

Many high-quality home monitoring systems are designed to switch seamlessly to a built-in battery backup when power is lost. For smart homes, devices like door locks, monitoring panels and wireless siren alarms are home security features that function normally without power. For equipment that lacks the functionality to switch to battery power, plugging into a home battery backup system can keep important peripheral cameras or touchpads running.

Home Security Communications Without Internet

Some newer home security systems do not require an internet connection to work; instead, this equipment sends notifications and alerts to monitoring centers using cellular channels, bypassing the need for the internet altogether. So an alarm will still go off if there is no internet, as long as the system (on battery backup) runs over a mobile network or uses cellular data for backup during an outage.
