Summertime Sweets

Summertime is full of laughter, fun and memories. Parties and gatherings happen almost every weekend, so having a go-to dessert to bring is very important.

Below are five summertime desserts that are sure to be a hit at the next event you host or are invited to.

No. 1: Pecan pie

Pecan pie is a southern classic. Crunchy and sweet with a rich, sugary taste in every bite, pecan pies are great for any summer event.

These pies are great for dinner parties, birthday celebrations, Fourth of July parties and family reunions.

Spice up your pecan pie by adding chocolate chips or add bourbon whiskey for a stronger taste.

No. 2: Apple pie and vanilla ice cream

You really can’t beat a piece of apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It will take you back to the days when your grandma would have the whole family over for supper, and she would finish the meal off with her famous homemade pie and some ice cream.

The mouth-watering combination is great for a summer evening on the back porch or around the dinner table. Grab some ice cream and try out this easy skillet apple pie recipe.

No. 3: Peach cobbler

Similar to apple pie with a softer texture, peach cobbler is a great evening treat. Combine your cobbler with a good book and a cup of coffee and your evening is set.

What is great about peach cobbler is that it is easy to make and you need just five ingredients to have a dessert the whole neighborhood will smell while cooking in your oven.  

No. 4: S’mores

A great outdoor treat for bonfires or camping, S’mores are easy to make. All you need is a chocolate bar, some marshmallows and graham crackers.

If the traditional S’more just doesn’t do it for you anymore, try substituting the chocolate with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or another favorite chocolate treat. Looking for a healthier alternative to marshmallows? Cut a banana into little pieces and substitute it for the marshmallow.  

No. 5: Fruit parfait

For those looking to make a health-conscious decision, a parfait is always a great option.

Pick up some vanilla yogurt from your local grocery store, add a mixture of fresh fruit and sprinkle in some granola pieces for an added crunch.

Put that bad boy in the freezer for a few minutes and you’ll get a thicker texture, similar to that of ice cream. You might not be eating ice cream, but you can at least trick your brain into thinking you are.
